High in Napa Valley’s prime mountain vineyards above Lake Hennessy we have found an exceptional source for our 2021 Haute Montagne Cabernet Franc, a wine with power, depth, and definition to spare. From the same 1400’ elevation vineyards as our Haute Montagne Cabernet, The 2021 Haute Montagne Cabernet Franc overlooks Napa Valley's prestigious vineyards of Oakville and Rutherford. The 2021 vintage was near-perfect growing conditions in Napa Valley. It was one of the driest years on record with only 10” of precipitation the entire season. Even temperatures, without heat spikes and a cool, sunny fall resulted in early bloom and perfect conditions for an exceptional vintage. Add a first-class mountain vineyard to this equation and the resulting wine has potential for greatness. Among classic Bordeaux grape varieties, Cabernet Franc outshines all others in its class in the mountain environment. At elevation, the vines find a natural balance, forming intense, complex, flavors on sun exposed terraces. Since the vines require little manipulation and leafing during the growing season, the ripening curve is very steady and even, allowing for a bold and uncommonly rich expression of Cabernet Franc. Aromas of baking spice and damson plum pour from the glass supported by a ripe mulberry, red raspberry flavor profile with great length. The finish shows some soft structural tannins that will allow this beautiful Cabernet Franc to age for 20 - 30 years. French oak barrels are employed in the tradition of Bordeaux, but with the characterful voice of California. Rather than demanding your attention, it compels you to enjoy and explore.
