CAVAILLON MELON
The Cavaillon melon, also known as the Charentais melon, is a small, round, and highly aromatic cantaloupe that originates from the Provence region in France, specifically the town of Cavaillon. This melon is highly prized for its sweet, juicy orange flesh and fragrant aroma, distinguishing it from other cantaloupes. Its skin is typically pale green with darker green, well-defined vertical stripes, creating an appealing look.
Cavaillon melons are celebrated for their unique taste, often described as intensely sweet with a slightly floral hint. They are enjoyed fresh, used in salads, or paired with savory ingredients like prosciutto for a classic French appetizer. They have become a symbol of Provençal cuisine, and Cavaillon even hosts an annual melon festival celebrating this cherished fruit.
These melons are usually harvested between June and September, making them a summer delicacy. They require a warm, dry climate to develop their full sweetness, and traditional French methods ensure only the ripest melons are sold.
